Panel to Discuss Connecticut?s Future

Panel to Discuss Connecticut’s Future
Greenwich, CT – Greenwich’s First Selectman’s Economic Advisory Committee will sponsor a panel discussion on “Taxing Away Connecticut’s Future” at the Greenwich Library, Sunday November 15th from 5:00 P.M. to 6:30 P. M. Moderated by Larry Kudlow, CNBC Senior Contributor and radio host of the nationally-syndicated “Larry Kudlow Show”, panelists will include Scott Frantz, CT State Senator representing Greenwich, Stamford and New Canaan since 2008; Ned Lamont,  Businessman, Former Greenwich Selectman, candidate for Governor of CT; Carol Platt Liebau, Yankee Institute President, Commentator newsprint and broadcast media; and Suzanne Bates, Yankee Institute Director of  Research.

The EAC, Greenwich’s Economic Advisory Committee, is tasked with providing the First Selectman with insights on why businesses are attracted and choose to locate in Greenwich.  Its recent survey sought opinions from existing business to gain an understanding of what could cause key Town employers to leave.  Interviewees responded that rapidly rising taxes and the permitting process could tip the balance in favor of their firm’s departures.
To ensure that Greenwich remains an attractive place for one of its major business sectors, financial services companies, to be headquartered, the EAC has organized a panel discussion to focus on factors that impact CT and Greenwich economy.  This is the Committee’s first of a series of signature events on driving Greenwich’s economic health and growth.
During Sunday’s discussion, Kudlow will draw out panelists on such topics as CT’s budgeting and spending, how the national perception of CT business climate and state’s ranking as a residence for retirees impacts Fairfield County; and, suggestions of actions that can be taken.  Senator Frantz’ legislative experience, Mr. Lamont’s insights as a politician and businessman, Ms. Liebau’s immersion in policy and Ms. Bates’ expertise as a journalist, researcher, promise a lively exchange.

Thinking the topic of taxes would be a good introduction for its signature speaker series, the EAC looks forward to inviting speaker panels to the community to continue a thoughtful exploration of the future of Greenwich, Connecticut.  # # # # #
